Borehole drilling layout in Kenya
Hydrogeological survey process
This survey is conducted by a registered geologist and its the first thing to be done in any borehole drilling project. The surveyor visits physically the site and collects data. From the collected data, a hydrogeological report is developed and submitted to Water Resources Authority for drilling permit acquisition. Upon having the WRA permit one can proceed with it to County government drilling permit.
The Objective of the survey is to ascertain the depth to be drilled, potential aquifer on site and also the nearby boreholes.
Borehole drilling process
Having done a hydrogeological survey and Environmental Impact Assessment successfully, and permits obtained, we then proceed to the actual drilling.
Drilling procedures are as follows:
-Boring of ground to recommended depth.
-Borehole development/construction
-Test pumping
-Water quality test
Environmental Impact Assessment
EIA is a tool used to assess various impacts of borehole drilling project on the environment. This activity aims to help avoid, reduce or offset environmental effects. A NEMA registered EIA conducts this process through screen, scoping then preparing EIA report which is submitted to NEMA for NEMA permits. With this permit you are now good to carry on with your borehole drilling project.
Pump installation
Based on the results of test pumping, a design is done to create specifications for the pump. A client is free to choose electric or solar water pump depending on their budget or energy efficiency.
A pump whose specs match what was recommended in the test pumping results is installed as per NEMA standards. After which pipe work ,steel water tower construction and tank installation is done.
